DIGITAL INFORMATION SHOULD ALWAYS be considered fragile. When you have potential evidence --Electronically Stored Information (ESI) or Data (ESD) -- on a computer or a digital storage medium, the sooner you get a Forensics Examiner involved, the better your chances of recovering that evidence. The longer you wait and the more that computer or device is left running, the more likely that the evidence may be destroyed!

INTERNAL INVESTIGATIONS should always be handled in a forensically sound manner. While the initial cause for the investigation may be a violation of corporate policy, that investigation may soon turn into a criminal or civil matter which may end up in court.
